14 free money making apps to earn extra cash

‘WE MAKE $30000 A MONTH’

14 free money making apps to earn extra cash at your fingertips

FroM

Mystery shopping

You can actually get paid to review shops and restaurants as a mystery shopper. The apps can also ask you to review in store displays or check the service you receive from staff.

Field Agent

The Field Agent app shows different assignments and tasks that are available to you. You need to look at the map, then venture out to complete your mission. I generally try to tie in a visit when I’m out shopping, rather than making a specific trip.
Each one you take part in lasts for now more than around 10 minutes and you need to do a short write up report afterwards about your experience or upload photos. You can see pay outs of around £5 for each task, some pay a lot more.
Available on Apple store (not available in the UK Google Play store).

Roamler

There is limited access to the Roamler app. Either they will let you join if there aren’t many people in your location or you need to get an invite from another user. Head to Roamler Facebook page, or search on Twitter, and ask another user to get invited.
In the app, you get given a list of tasks, based on your location, and you earn as you complete them.
Jobs can pay around £2 a time, but you can get through a good few in an hour.
Available in the Apple Store or on Google Play store.

Surveys

Giving your opinion on a variety of subjects has never been easier with your smart phone.

iPoll

From the comfort of your sofa (or anywhere really) you are able to enter surveys about your habits.
There will be an initial screening to check you’re suitable to take part, then you answer questions to give your opinion.
Each survey lasts up to 20 minutes and you could earn up to a few quid for each of them you complete.
Available in the Apple store or on Google Play store.

Voxpopme

Rather than clicking on options to give your opinion, you use Voxpopme to record your answer as a video. They ask for opinions on recent ad campaigns or even news events.
Videos need to be between 15 seconds and a minute and they’ll pay you in excess of 25p for each video you upload. For a few seconds of work, the pennies add up fast enough. You get to cash out to PayPal when you’ve got £10 saved up.
Available in the Apple store or on Google Play store.

Scan your receipts

After you’ve been shopping, don’t ditch your receipts! Most people will keep hold of them in case you need to take something back, but we’re making money with them too.

Receipt Hog

It doesn’t matter where you’ve been shopping, although it needs to be in store, not online. Once you’ve got your receipt, take a photo in the app and you’ll earn coins.
The coins add up over a few weeks, with you being able to earn bonuses, and you can cash out in Amazon vouchers or to PayPal. It does take a bit of time to get your first pay out but takes less than 30 seconds of your time to upload your receipt.
As a minimum, you can redeem 1,000 points for a £3 Amazon gift voucher or 1,500 points for a £5 PayPal pay out. Available in the Apple store or on Google Play store.

Go shopping and then scan your receipt on Shopprize. You'll then be entered in to a daily draw or collect points to earn Amazon vouchers

Shopprize

You earn coins after you’ve snapped a photo of your receipt and you can either swap them for a chance to win prizes in a daily prize draw, or you can keep them saved to exchange for Amazon vouchers.
You can get a payout with Shopprize far quicker than Receipt Hog and you can use both apps to double your earnings.
You get rewarded with 100 coins for each receipt (and bonus coins when you level up). When you hit 7,500 coins you can cash out a £5 Amazon voucher or a Google Play gift card.
Available in the Google Play store (not available on Apple).

Complete tasks

Instead of just watching TV (while scrolling through Facebook on your phone) each evening, there are odd tasks you can complete to make a bit of extra cash too.

Spare5

Doing a little task here and there on the Spare5 app adds up money in your account. They pay in dollars automatically each weekly to your PayPal account, when you earn over $1 (PayPal convert this into pounds for you for free).
Tasks we’ve taken part in are checking images and videos have the correct keywords and undertaking phone surveys. It takes a while for the money to add up but doesn’t take too much energy to complete them.
Available in the Apple store (not currently available on the UK Google Play store).

Swagbucks

The Watch (TV) app allows you to earn Swagbucks (or SB) in exchange for gift cards to spend at Amazon, Argos, Marks & Spencer, or iTunes. Each time you watch a video, you’ll earn SB.

How to avoid large data charges

If you are using your mobile phone to make money then you need to be aware of any data charges that you may incur, especially if you are using your phone more than usual. You can check with your provider to see how much data you use. Whenever possible you should use wifi as this will stop you from eating up your internet allowance. There's no point spending money on extra data as it will cancel out any extra earnings you make.

With the videos playing in the background, you are able to earn 2 SB for every 6 videos, which is more than you get if you watch the video via their website. However, you can earn more points via the site directly so the app is just a bonus.
You can earn around £20 of vouchers a month. The amount of points you can exchange for vouchers depends on want to have, at the moment 720 SB gets you a £5 Amazon gift card.
Available on Apple store or on Google Play store.

Earn cash back (and free food!)

In a bid to reduce our spend at the supermarket, we’re using cashback apps to cut back. When the apps offer the same product with a discount, we can get branded food far cheaper than supermarket’s own label products.

CheckoutSmart

You can earn cashback when you upload receipts of an item on offer. Cashback can be as much as 100 per cent of what you paid! It’s not just for supermarkets either as you can earn with the likes of Superdrug and Boots too.
The cashback offers change weekly and there are quite often free branded items available for you to get hold off too, saving hundreds of pounds a year! There is a minimum pay out threshold of £1 and if you wait until you hit £20 you can cash out with no transfer fee.
Available on Apple store or on Google Play store.

Shopmium

Just upload a photo of your supermarket receipts that matches one of the offers listed in the app.
When you’re ready to cash out, you can choose to have the money sent to your PayPal account or cash out straight to your bank.
Available on Apple store or on Google Play store.

Free lotteries

Even if it’s only few quid on the big UK lottery, with the chances of winning so low, it almost feels like I’m throwing my money away. Instead, I’ve found a free lottery I can play via my phone.

Raffler

Every day, the Raffler app gives away £1,000 – for nothing. You don’t have to pay to get the app, or to enter. You just need to watch two adverts and you’ve got your entry.
You need to check back to the app each day to see if you’ve won (they don’t email you) and that’s it.
While I haven’t won as yet, I’ve even seen someone win in my home town so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Available on Apple store or on Google Play store.

Sell stuff

Bits and bobs start to pile up around the house and, instead of leaving items unused, we look to sell them on and make a bit of money back.

Facebook selling groups

Facebook selling groups are a great way to connect with family over events, but you can also use the groups to make a bit of money too.
Similar to eBay (just without any listing fees), Facebook is full of local selling pages where you can pass on your goods.
You can manage sales while logged into Facebook, although you don’t need to specific Group app to manage your listings.
Just be careful not to spend too long on it, or you may end up being tempted to buy something as well!
Available on Apple store or on Google Play store.

Gumtree

If you’ve got something to sell locally then the Gumtree app works really well. After placing your listing, you get an email notification if someone is interested.
You could even use the app to hunt for a new job, which could see you get a pay increase too!
Available on Apple store or on Google Play store.

Get fit while earning

Bounts

With the Bounts app, you earn points daily for being active. I’m not much of a runner, but earn points with my steps each day. As the points stack up, I can exchange them for gift vouchers.
The app links with a FitBit activity tracker and loads of other free to download steps trackers.
It does take a bit of time for the points to accumulate, but getting paid to exercise makes it even more worthwhile.
Vouchers can be exchanged for different amounts of points (depending on what voucher you want) but around 1,800 points and can be swapped for a £5 Amazon voucher.
Available on Apple store or on Google Play store.
